Returning from a hike during a hot summer a few years ago in the upper Stura valley, we happened upon this small hamlet, above Pietraporzio.
It often happens that we were amazed by the view, the charm and the authenticity of the old village houses. Exploring the village, we came across the house that is the current Arpaouza. Being as much with this valley in love as we are, and eager to make its beauty known to others, we decided to renovate the old building and thus allow our guests a comfortable stay in this wonderful place.
In the past, the Arpaouza was a typical “big” building of the’ architecture of the Valley. On the ground floor was the stable, in the middle the living quarters and on the top floor the barn with hay. and the beams where agricultural products were hung to be dried. Today, the building has been converted into 4 comfortable apartments. including a large common room on the ground floor. Guests can see the maps of hiking trails there, be updated on the initiatives of the Valley, play cards, chess or other board games. In the common room guests can converse by the fireplace or enjoy a sauna after a hike. Nearby the common rooms there is ski and bicycle deposit and a laundry with a washing machine and a dryer.
For every need in the next house is Gino, the guardian of Arpaouza, in which guests can refer to any eventuality or curiosity. Gino also takes care of the vegetable garden of Arpaouza, from which, whenever the weather permits, guests can draw on fresh produce. The Arpaouza also features a private car park.
The apartments are furnished in a simple way, but comfortable. Each of them is associated with a color of 4 flowers typical Occitan, which LA CAMPANETO (primrose), LOU Serpoul (lavender), LOU BROUAS (rhododendron) and LOU Chardoun (the queen of the Alps).
They are all equipped with electric hob, oven, dishwasher, television, hair dryer (one for each bathroom) and wi-fi area. They are also equipped with everything needed for basic needs (such as oil, salt, sugar, coffee …). Guests who want it may require linen complete.
Pets are more than welcome in the apartments, but trusting in the availability of their masters to avoid that get in the way and the other guests and inhabitants of Castello.
The Arpaouza is located in Castello, a hamlet of Pietraporzio, at 1340 meters above sea level. The village consists of a few houses, inhabited all year round, overlooking the upper valley, where the river flows Stura
Pietraporzio is accessible by car, both with a comfortable path, which in about ten minutes to the center of the town. Here is a small supermarket, where you can refuel, and some excellent restaurants. From Pietraporzio also passes the line of the buses connecting Cuneo to Colle della Maddalena.
